Moving from an old website

Already have a website somewhere else? You don't have to start from zero. Your search history is tied to your web address, not to the old site — so keep the same address and point it at your new RoofPropage site. Here's the order that avoids any gap.

The safe order#

1. Build and finish your new site here first. Get the words, photos and pages the way you want them while it sits on its free roofpropage.com address — see Build your site.
2. Go live on the plan. Your site is now published on roofpropage.com, and your old site is still running on your domain. Nothing has changed for customers yet.
3. Connect your domain — follow Connect a domain you already own. You'll add one or two records where you bought the domain. Your old site keeps answering until those records take effect, so there's no dark period.
4. Wait for the "Custom domain" card to show "Connected". From that moment your address serves the new site.
5. Only now cancel your old website host. Keep the domain itself — never cancel the domain registration; that's what your search history hangs on.

What happens next#

Your existing address now shows your new site, and the search history tied to that address usually carries over with it. Search engines re-crawl on their own schedule — expect changes in results to settle over weeks, not days, and don't be alarmed by a short wobble right after the switch. Anyone who visits the roofpropage.com address is sent to your domain automatically.
