What happens when your card payment fails

If a monthly charge doesn't go through, your site stays live for now and we email you. Update your card from "Manage billing" to keep it online.

Cards expire, get replaced or hit a limit. When the monthly charge for your site fails, we don't take your site down straight away. Here's what happens and how to fix it.

What you'll see#

We email you once, with the subject "Action needed: your payment failed — [Your business]". It says your site is still live for now, but if the payment keeps failing it will go offline and you'll stop getting leads. The "Update payment method" button takes you to your dashboard.

In your dashboard, tap "Use the classic editor" under your site's card. That page shows a red notice: "● Payment failed — your site may go offline soon. Update your card to keep it live." with a red "Manage billing" button beside it. Your site is still live and still collecting leads while the card is being retried.

How to fix it#

  1. Sign in and open your dashboard.
  2. Open your site, or find its card, and tap "Manage billing". This opens your billing page, run by Stripe, the company that processes your card.
  3. Add your new card, or update the old one, and save.
  4. Come back to your dashboard. Once the charge goes through, the red notice clears.

If it keeps failing#

If every retry fails, your subscription ends and your site goes offline. Unless you've unsubscribed from our emails, we email you "[Your business]'s site is offline — reactivate anytime" with a "Reactivate my site" button. Nothing you built is deleted: your pages, photos and leads stay in your dashboard.

Getting your site back#

Your dashboard now shows the site as a draft with a "Go live · $49/mo" button. Tap it and pay with a working card, and your site comes back exactly as you left it. If a payment for the site is already going through, you'll see "You won't be charged twice — we didn't start a second payment" instead — nothing to do, your site goes live by itself once it clears.
